No me cabe duda”.

The paddle is slowly making its way throughout the world. Its progress is slow but firm, reaching places as different as Japan, Brazil or Senegal. Today we know one of the promoters of this expansion and development in countries that until recently did not have infrastructure for the practice of the sport of the shovel. His name is José Landeta and in recent years he has managed to take the paddle to London and Austria.

José Landeta is a Buenos Aires native raised in Cádiz whose passion for paddle goes far beyond his simple practice. After spending a year publicizing the sport in London, he decided to move to live in Austria, the country where he is his wife. In his new residence, Landeta became a pádel pioneer. After overcoming the first pitfalls, linked to the language, the Austrian culture or the lack of aid from the institutions, José has made great progress in a very short time.

Thanks to an interview with Work in Padel, we have been able to get to know this passionate paddle player a bit more. Landeta explains how his first steps were in the world of spade sport. «In the university I studied Law and later I specialized in Sports Law. The padel after college went into the background. After several work experiences, during the employment crisis in Spain, I received a call from a friend who lived in London. He told me that they were looking for someone to develop the part of the paddle inside a major English company. The problem they were having was that they did not find someone with the level of padel and enough English, so at that time I did not have much competition for the position. I went on a lightning trip to London, I saw the facilities, they told me the project, I had the interview and I did not hesitate for a moment. The next week I was living in London

The Buenosairean one gives his opinion on the expansion that this sport is having throughout all the world. «There are countries where things are getting better than others. There is a lot of talk about the integration of padel federations into tennis federations, which helps the development of padel in the short term. I’m not sure it’s the best solution for our sport in the long term, but it’s just my humble opinion. However, at the moment in the countries that do this the paddle is working wonderfully, so let’s hope it continues like this «.

On the development of padel in Austria, Landeta sure is evolving despite bureaucratic obstacles and problems with the Federation. «If I have to make a comparison, I would say that padel in Austria is like in the UK 2 or 3 years ago. The Federation does not do what it has to do and is blocking a bit the development of the sport in the country, but little by little, with private investments, new tracks are appearing all over the country. You have to give it time, but as in the rest of Europe, the paddle will have its particular boom in Austria too. I do not have doubt«.
