The fifth season of the International Padel Experience by Madison took place in Andorra, which participates in the circuit for the third consecutive year. The Principality, one of the smallest countries in Europe, lived a great weekend of paddle that did not disappoint the players and the audience. We chatted with Víctor Bassols, the young player who was part of the couple who came out champion with Enzo Guigni in the men’s category A and therefore got a ticket for the Elvas Final Master. Bassols told us about his experiences in the tournament, his feelings throughout the weekend and his relationship with his favorite sport: the paddle.

What do you like most about the IPE by Madison?

What I liked the most about the tournament was the good treatment at all times of the people of the organization and the people of the club who from the first moment treated us as if we were from there. On the circuit, I think the motivation to win the tournament to participate in the Final Master and the prizes that give winners and finalists is very good.

Did you have the goal of winning the tournament?

One of the main objectives when we saw the picture was to reach the final since we did not know any player except for Gustavo and Gastón, who had talked to us very well about them. We knew that if we reached the final it was going to be a very tough game but we would have our options and that’s how it was.

Do you like the atmosphere of the tournament? Fans, players, organization…

I liked the atmosphere because as I said before, they treated us very well, they applauded and encouraged the people from there and the outsiders at all times. On the part of the players it seemed very good to me that there was a good relationship between all of us and we could share the differences in the way we work in the clubs of Andorra and those of Catalonia.

What would you improve in these tournaments?

Mainly improve the expansion of this circuit a bit more through social networks, directly contact clubs and influential people in the world of paddle, because to give an example, we learned about this tournament by some friends who told us, but I did not know the existence of this circuit

Do you dream of winning the Elvas Final Master?

After winning the Andorra tournament, it is clear that since we have the opportunity to enjoy the Final Master, we will fight to win it.

Tell me your story with the paddle… Beginnings, anecdotes, stories you remember…

I met the padel when in the tennis club where I trained, mounted two paddle tennis courts and began to organize tournaments, at that time I started to love paddle tennis but I was still training tennis and padel played from time to time. One day I decided to start padel training because I liked it a lot and from that moment I started to take it more seriously. At the moment, the best year talking about competition, was last year that we managed to be runners-up in Catalonia in the junior category and in one of the tests of the Spanish championship we managed to reach the semifinals losing against Spain’s No. 2 7-6 in the third set. With the stories that I am left with, it is with all the trips and great experiences in tournaments like the IPE by Madison of Andorra.

What do you think about paddle tennis in Andorra? And about the situation of sports in general?

I think that in Andorra there is a good level of paddle and the way of playing is very different, because the height of the ball leaves much more and the points are much faster. On the situation of padel currently, I think it is in a phase of great growth, but we must take care of this sport because it is still small.

Do you like the idea of traveling outside your home to play paddle tennis?

I like it a lot because that’s how you meet people and you see the level that is everywhere, with much desire to go to play the final Master to Elvas!
