La primera parada del International Padel Experience by Madison tiene los días contados para empezar a brillar. Por primera vez en la historia, la ciudad castellanoleonesa formará parte del único circuito internacional de pádel amateur del 20 al 30 de mayo.
En tierras palentinas hay localidades fantásticas y no cabe duda de que su capital es una de ellas. “La bella desconocida”, nombre que adquiere de su Catedral, es una de las ciudades menos conocidas del territorio castellanoleonés, pese a que esconce rincones secretos que serán las delicias de todos los visitantes al torneo.
Palencia es un lugar tranquilo donde todo está cerca, por eso es perfecta para visitar en pocos días. Desde el IPE by Madison os dejamos algunos de los lugares imprescindibles que podéis visitar durante los días del torneo:
- La Calle Mayor es la arteria principal de la ciudad y el centro neurálgico en torno al que se ha organizado la vida de la ciudad desde hace siglos. Con casi un kilómetro de longitud, los soportales recorren la mayor parte de la vía y destacan las casonas y las fachadas balconadas, que hacen del paseo por el centro histórico una auténtica maravilla.
- La Catedral de San Antolín o “la bella desconocida” refleja en su estructura los diferentes estilos arquitectónicos y está caracterizada de esa manera debido a que las obras del templo se prolongaron a lo largo de los años.
- Un icono de la ciudad es el Cristo del Otero, que nada tiene que envidiar a la estatua del Cristo de Corcovado de Río de Janeiro. Esta escultura de 21 metros de altura ha sido muy apreciada por la crítica por su originalidad. Si tenéis tiempo, no dejéis de subir a su colina porque merece la pena.
- La ciudad se encuentra a orillas del río Carrión, lo que le hace estar repleta de zonas verdes y puentes, alguno de ellos históricos, de origen romano, que permiten la entrada a la ciudad. Esta mezcla de naturaleza e historia que recorre la ciudad presenta un entorno emblemático que hace de los paseos por estos puntos todo un espectáculo visual.
- Ruta de castillos. Si la arquitectura medieval es vuestro fuerte, cerca de la capital se encuentran localidades interesantes que guardan mucha historia en sus parajes, pudiendo realizar una ruta por los castillos palentinos que podría ser la guinda del pastel en vuestro viaje.
Estas son solo algunas de las joyas que podréis visitar en Palencia, por supuesto no están todas. Pero, si lo que os gusta es el turismo gastronómico, no os podéis perder las maravillas que guarda esta ciudad y las localidades colindantes, ya que Palencia es tierra de buen comer.

The first stop of the International Padel Experience by Madison is about to kick off its journey. For the first time in the tournament history, the Castilian city will be part of the one and only international amateur padel circuit from May 20th to 30th.
In this region of Spain there are fantastic locations and there is no doubt that its capital is one of them. «The unknown beauty», named by its Cathedral, is one of the less visited cities in the Castilian territory, despite the fact that there are secret corners, which will be the delight of all the visitors to the contest.
Palencia is a peaceful place where everything is close, making it perfect to be visited in a few days. We leave you some of the essential spots that you could visit during the tournament:
- The «Calle Mayor» o Main Street is the principal artery of the city and the center around which the life of the city has been organized for centuries. It has almost one kilometre long and it is cover by arcades on both side of the pedestrian road, with large houses and balconied facades stand out, which make the walk though this historic street a wonder.
- The «San Antolín» Cathedral called «the unknown beauty», like the city, reflects on its structure the different architectural styles. These characteristics are due to the fact that the works of the temple lasted throughout the years.
- The «Cristo del Otero« is an icon of the city, which has nothing to envy to the statue of the «Christ the Redeemer» in Rio de Janeiro. This 21-meter-high sculpture has been highly regarded by critics due to its originality. If you have the time, we will recommend you climb its hill because it is worth it.
- The city is located on the banks of the «Carrión» river, which makes the scene full of green areas and bridges, some of them from Roman origin, allowing visitors entry the city. This mixture of nature and history that runs though the city provides a beautiful environment that makes the walks a true visual spectacle.
- Route of castles. If you are a medieval architecture lover, near the capital there are interesting towns keeping loads of history in their locations. You can be able to take a route through the castles near Palencia, which could be the icing on the cake of your trip.
These are just some of the gems that you can visit in Palencia, but of course they are not all of them. Moreover, if you are looking for the gastronomic tourism, you cannot miss the wonders that the city has for the foodie lovers, since Palencia is a land of great cuisine.
