It is well known that practicing sports is beneficial for good physical and mental health. All are good, but are there any or some that provide greater benefits?

To find the answer is not enough to know how many calories you burn with this or that sport, but it is necessary to know the results that these will cause in the body over the years. Certainly a very difficult job, one that Emmanuel Stamatakis, an associate professor at the University of Sydney (Australia), joined with an international team of researchers. To find out what exercise brings greater benefits Stamatakis and his team spend many hours analyzing data of 80,306 adults, with an average age of 52, who participated in health surveys between 1994 and 2006.

After analyzing the data came a surprising conclusion. Racquet sports such as paddle, tennis or badminton are the best to extend life and take care of the heart.

The researchers determined at what percentage certain racket sports and others would help reduce the risk of death and cardiovascular disease. In the first place are the racket, which reduce by 47% the risk of death and by 56% the risk of suffering heart disease. Swimming can also reduce the risk of death by 28% and heart disease by 41%. In the same order, aerobic exercises also bring health benefits (15% and 36%).

In conclusion, practicing paddle, tennis or badminton will help to have a healthier heart, however, Stamatakis believes that in the end, the best type of physical activity that people can practice is the one they like to do most.[:]
