a voluntaria.

First of all, how are you?

We are all well, protected and in a quarantine. We started with a voluntary quarantine that later evolved into a mandatory quarantine decreed by the country. We hope you are well too.

How are you living the pandemic issue?

Like most people, we are living with great concern because these are times of great uncertainty as we do not know how long it will take for the situation to stabilize. We try to keep up with the news as much as possible and stay up to date on the evolution of the pandemic.

And your country?

At first Portugal slightly devalued a little the effect the pandemic could have when hitting the country, but as we started to see an increase in the number of positive cases, most people became aware of the imminent danger and the country almost ended up in voluntary quarantine even before the government decreed the mandatory quarantine. For this also contributed the fact that we unfortunately had examples from other European countries like Italy and Spain where the virus arrived before Portugal.

Has your country made tough decisions about it?

Yes, the President of the Republic decreed State of Emergency and the Government imposed a series of restrictions that are essentially aimed at social isolation.

How this affects to your club?

The club temporarily closed, voluntarily, on the 12th of March. We felt that the time had come for us to take a preventive posture and to protect our customers, employees, coaches and partners because health comes first. We felt that this was how we played our part in society and in preventing the spread of the pandemic. However, as said before, a state of emergency has now been decreed in the country and our activity is one of those that must be closed until further instructions.

How long do you think it will take to disappear?

We think it will take some time to disappear because it doesn’t seem like a matter of days or weeks but a few months. We think that when the situation of the spread has stabilized a little, the country will start to lift some measures that have been taken and people will be able to return to their normal life, even with some extra caution. This does not mean that the virus has disappeared as this should take time. It means that things are likely to be at a stage when the National Health Service believes they would be able to respond to the needs caused by the pandemic.

Do you do exercise at home?

Yes, we try to do some exercise at home so that we won’t be out of physical activity for so long and also to stay and feel healthy.

Do you play padle there?

Unfortunately it is not possible because we live in an apartment, but we are really enjoying watching the videos on social networks about the originality of people playing on the terraces and balconies with neighbours, etc. This is very important for us all to know that people miss playing padel.

How do you see IPE 2020? Tell us your point of view

The IPE circuit is huge and very strong, although we all know that it is disappointing that the pandemic happened right at the beginning of the circuit, and right after the first event. There is a lot of work carried out by the organization in preparing the circuit and when everything is ready to start a great year, this event turns out to be an obstacle but we are sure that it will be successfully overcome. The postponement of the events was inevitable and the organization started soon working on the reorganization of the calendar and the pandemic will not spoil the circuit that was set up this year, it will only force events to be played in several countries simultaneously and in a shorter period of time.

Can you send a positive message?

Stay at home and follow the recommendations of the health authorities as this is the only way we can help fight this invisible danger that is this pandemic.

All together we will overcome this bad phase and return to the good times in padel, we will certainly still have time to train before competing in IPE 2020.

Stay safe!
