Yeray Pérez y Jorge Moreno, en categoría masculina, y Jemina King-Laura Deigman, en la competición femenina, se proclamaron brillantes campeones del adidas London Open, la penúltima parada del International Padel Challenge by Madison, tras derrotar a John Leach-Matt Every y Gemma Sgariglia-Laurence Manessian, respectivamente. Compitieron en Londres jugadores de Dubai, Francia, Italia, México, España y Reino Unido.

El torneo echó el telón en el prestigioso Club David Lloyd de Chigwell con una nueva jornada apasionante, en la que los favoritos en ambas categorías pusieron pie a tierra antes del epílogo. Las parejas que partían con la vitola de ser las cabezas de serie número uno enterraron sus opciones en unas semifinales vibrantes, en las que los aspirantes se vistieron de héroes para dar la campanada y colarse en la gran final del torneo londinense, puntuable para el British Padel Tour.

Los primeros en morder el polvo en la penúltima ronda fueron Mauricio Andrini y Francis Langan. Los número uno del ranking británico no pudieron quebrar la solidez de los españoles, Yeray Pérez y Jorge Romero. Con un juego alegre y agresivo, el almeriense y el canario, arrinconaron a sus oponentes desde el inicio. Pérez y Romero saltaron a la pista con el cuchillo entre los dientes y avisaron a los favoritos con un inquietante 6-3. Fieles a su calidad y ranking, Andrini y Langan se recuperaron en la segunda entrega (3-6) y enviaron el choque a un emocionante tie break que se resolvió con victoria española por 10-2.

La otra semifinal masculina también resultó muy pareja y como la primera tuvo un desenlace similar. Murray y Darlington aparecían en la posición de salida como favoritos ante Leach y Every, pero la lógica se volvió en su contra y la pareja británica se hizo con el triunfo en tres sets. 2-6, 6-2 y 10-7 para Leach y Every, que remontaron un 5-2 en la definitiva muerte súbita.
Con las dos parejas clasificadas para la final, el último duelo fue trepidante. Tanto, que se definió en tercer set no apto para cardíacos que claudicó en un tie break brutal que se llevaron Yeray Pérez y Jorge Romero (12-10). Hasta la muerte súbita, los españoles impusieron su ley en el primer acto que también desembocó en el tie break, pero cedieron el poder a Leach y Every en la segunda entrega (3-6). Con todo por decidir, el último set fue como una montaña rusa. Comenzaron mandando Pérez y Romero, pero Leach y Every nunca se rindieron y con un juego excelente forzaron un epílogo digno de las grandes ocasiones.

Y si en la competición masculina la sorpresa protagonizó las semifinales, en la categoría femenina las cabeza de serie número uno, las españolas Paula y Rebeca Sánchez, también se despidieron antes de hora. Las hermanas Sánchez se toparon con una roca personificada en Gemma Sgariglia y Laurence Manessian, que con 4-2 en contra en el primer set y resto nunca arrojaron la toalla y dieron la vuelta a este capítulo inicial para adelantarse 7-5 y cerrar posteriormente la batalla con un 6-0 inapelable.
La segunda semifinal resultó más desigual. Jemina King y Laura Deigman no dieron opción alguna a la sevillana Iris González y su compañera, Jane Hyde. Muy superiores, las británicas se metieron en la final tras imponerse 6-2 y 6-1.
Al igual que la final masculina, la femenina resultó muy igualada, si bien Jemina King y Laura Deigman supieron aguantar la presión para cerrar el primer set en el tie break ante Gemma Sgariglia y Laurence Manessian y enfilar su camino hacia el título. En el segundo acto quebraron el servicio de sus oponentes y se metieron la copa de campeonas en el paletero con un 6-4 definitivo.

Con un éxito rotundo, el adidas London Open se despidió hasta 2015 y deja paso en el International Padel Challenge by Madison a la última escala del único circuito internacional de pádel amateur que existe.
