Entrevistamos a Alfonso Patacho, el extremeño que se desplazó a Atenas para terminar saliendo campeón del primer Atenas Open del circuito International Padel Experience by Madison. El joven jugador español nos explica cómo fue su torneo en la capital griega y qué le llevó a desplazarse hasta Atenas para disputarlo.
¿Qué es lo que más te gustó del IPE by Madison?
Me gusto mucho la gente que vino a ver el torneo, ya que significa que a parte de que hay una buena organización, el pádel se está expandiendo cada vez más rápido y llegando a muchos más lugares.
¿Por qué decidiste viajar hasta Atenas para participar en el torneo?
Porque era una muy buena oportunidad para ayudar en lo que se puede en el crecimiento del pádel.
¿Tenías el objetivo de ganar?
Si, cuando vas a un torneo siempre vas con ese objetivo aunque haya partidos duros, pero el objetivo siempre es ganar.
¿Qué tal es el nivel de juego en Grecia?
Me ha sorprendido para muy bien la verdad, ya vine el año pasado y la gente ha mejorado mucho. Es algo muy bueno porque así el torneo es más competido e interesante.
¿Te gusta el ambiente del torneo? Fans, jugadores, organización…
Me ha encantado, ha estado genial todo, todo el mundo muy simpático, desde los camareros, los dueños del club todo el mundo ha hecho lo posible para que estuviéramos muy cómodos, y la organización genial porque ha sido de gran ayuda para poder ajustar los horarios
Cuéntame un poco tu historia con el pádel… Inicios, anécdotas, historias que recuerdes…
Yo jugaba al golf desde los tres años y un día en mi club tenían una pista de pádel y fui a ver a mi padre jugar. Me gustó tanto que me quedé a jugar después del partido y decidí dar clases con mis amigos y así empezó todo. Me acuerdo de cuando fuimos al mundial de México en 2015, yo representando al Reino Unido íbamos como una selección que no había jugado un mundial nunca y acabamos quedando terceros y fue una gran satisfacción y sorpresa.
¿Qué piensas sobre el pádel en Grecia? ¿Qué tal son las instalaciones?
El pádel en Grecia está creciendo mucho, muy rápido, y muy bien debido a la gestión de clubes como Forty Love, que ahora con la pista WPT (la primera de Grecia) todo el mundo podrá jugar donde juegan los profesionales. Las instalaciones son increíbles y el entorno espectacular.
¿Te gusta la idea de viajar fuera de tu casa para jugar al pádel?
Me encanta, me encanta viajar y mucho más si es para hacer lo que más me gusta
¿Cuáles son tus próximos objetivos?
Jugar alguna pre previa de WPT y este año competir en el circuito inglés de pádel ya que voy a estudiar la universidad allí. We interviewed Alfonso Patacho, the Extremaduran who traveled to Athens to be the champion of the first Athens Open of the International Padel Experience circuit by Madison. The young Spanish player explains how his tournament was in the Greek capital and what led him to move to Athens to dispute it.
What do you like most about the IPE by Madison?
I really liked the people who came to see the tournament, because it means that apart from there being a good organization, the padel is expanding faster and getting to many more places.
Why did you decide to travel to Athens to participate in the tournament?
Because it was a very good opportunity to help in what you can in the growth of the padel.
Did you have the goal of winning?
Yes, when you go to a tournament you always go with that goal even if there are tough matches, but the goal is always to win.
How is the level of play in Greece?
I was surprised, I came last year and people have improved a lot. It’s a very good thing because that way the tournament is more competitive and interesting
Do you like the atmosphere of the tournament? Fans, players, organization …
I loved it, everything was great, everyone was very nice, from the waiters, the owners of the club, everyone has done everything possible to make us very comfortable, and the organization was great because it has been very helpful to adjust the schedules
Tell me your story with the padel … Beginnings, anecdotes, stories you remember…
I played golf since I was three years old and one day at my club they had a padel tennis court and I went to see my father play. I liked it so much that I stayed to play after the game and decided to teach with my friends and that’s how it all started. I remember when we went to the World Cup in Mexico in 2015, I represented the United Kingdom as a team that had never played a World Cup and we ended up being third and it was a great satisfaction and surprise.
What do you think about the padel in Greece? How are the facilities?
The padel in Greece is growing a lot, very fast, and very well due to the management of clubs like Forty Love, that now with the wpt track (the first one in Greece) everybody will be able to play where the professionals play. The facilities are amazing and the surroundings spectacular.
Do you like the idea of traveling outside your home to play padel tennis?
I love, I love to travel and much more if it is to do what I like the most What are your next goals?Play some pre-WPT and this year compete in the English padel circuit since I’m going to study the university there.
