Entrevistamos a Arwin Romeijn, el flamante campeón del International Padel Experience by Madison: Rotterdam Open. El jugador holandés nos explica cómo fue su experiencia durante el torneo y su relación con este deporte. ¿Cómo descubrió el pádel? ¿Cuáles son sus próximos objetivos? ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del circuito International Padel Experience by Madison?
Lo que más me gusta es ser parte de este gran torneo. La idea de que personas de diferentes países tengan los mismos gustos me encanta. El pádel conecta personas.
¿Por qué decidiste participar en el torneo? Porque soy el entrenador de pádel en la Padel-Only Academy. También doy clases en Padel club Victoria.
¿Cuál era tu objetivo cuando te inscribiste?
¡Tenía el objetivo de ganar el torneo, por supuesto!
¿Cómo es el nivel de juego en los Países Bajos?
El nivel de juego es bastante bueno, si se tiene en cuenta que acabamos de empezar con este deporte. Tenemos competencia y muchos torneos. ¡El buen nivel viene de ex jugadores de tenis!
¿Te gusta el ambiente del torneo? Fans, jugadores, organización…
Me gusta mucho. Especialmente las cervezas Estrella Damm, las camisetas de Bullpadell y pancartas del club son perfectas. Si pasas cerca, se reconoce inmediatamente y piensas, “aquí hay algo que hacer y algo que nos gusta ver.
Cuéntame tu historia con el pádel … Comienzos, anécdotas, historias que recuerdas …
Mi historia con el pádel es muy larga, pero puedo resumirla. Antes de descubrir Padel en Alicante, entrenaba para convertirme en profesor de tenis. Pero cuando jugué, inmediatamente lo supe; “este es mi juego y destino”. Regresé a Holanda queriendo animar a todos a que experimenten este deporte. Todos deberían hacerlo. ¡Por eso comencé mi Academia!
¿Qué opinas sobre el pádel en los Países Bajos? ¿Cómo son las instalaciones deportivas?
Las instalaciones son bastante buenas. Tenemos pistas con hermosos cristales. Algunas con Algunas incluso con espacio para salir de la pista si hace falta. Hay alrededor de 210 pistas en los Países Bajos, y sigue creciendo rápidamente. Me gustan las pistas con espacio para poder correr si sale alguna bola. Creo que deberíamos construir más pistas de este tipo ¡A la gente le encanta eso!
¿Te gusta la idea de viajar fuera de tu casa para jugar al pádel?
Mucho. Conocer gente nueva es realmente agradable. Todos tienen su propia opinión y me inspira para seguir mejorando.
¿Cuál es tu próximo objetivo?
Mi objetivo es llegar al equipo nacional holandés y al top 10 de los Países Bajos. Además de eso, mi objetivo también es ayudar a más clubes aportando buenos entrenadores, estructuras y el apoyo de Padel-Only Academy. ¡Todo el mundo merece un buen entrenador que sepa cómo jugar a pádel!

We interviewed Arwin Romeijn, the new champion of the International Padel Experience by Madison: Rotterdam Open. The Dutch player explains his experience during the tournament and his relationship with this sport. How did you discover the padel? What are your next goals? Arwin talks about this and much more
What do you like most about the IPE by Madison?
What I like the most is to be part of this bigger picture. The idea that in other country they do the same makes a good connection. Padel connects people.
Why did you decide to participate in the tournament?
Because I am the Padel coach and head coach of Padel-Only Academy. I give lessons and more at Padelclub Victoria.
Did you have the objective of winning?
I had the objective to win the tournament, of course! :-)
How is the level of play in the Netherlands?
The level of play is quite good if you keep in mind that we are just started! We have competition and many tournaments. The good level comes from ex tennis players!
Do you like the atmosphere of the tournament? Fans, players, organization …
I like it very much. Especially the Estrella Beers, shirts and banners are perfect. If you walk by you recognize immediately. Here is something to do and something we like to see.
Tell me your story with the padel… Beginnings, anecdotes, stories you remember …
You mean my story about Padel? I can make it a long story but will be short. Before I discovered Padel in Alicante I was busy with my objective to become a tennis coach. But immediately when I played Padel I knew it. This is my game and destination. ;-) I came back in the Netherlands and want to tell en let everybody experience Padel the way everybody should. Thats why I started my Academy also!
What do you think about padel tennis in the Netherlands? How are the sports facilities?
The facilities are quite good. We have courts with beautiful glass. Some with spaces to run out of the courts as well. With around 210 courts in The Netherlands it is growing fast. Because I like the courts and running out I think we have to build the courts with enough space around the court to look and run out of the court! People love that!
Do you like the idea of traveling outside your home to play padel tennis?
Very much. Meet new people is really nice. Everybody have their own opinion and it gives me inspiration.
What are your next objective?
My objective is for myself to reach the Dutch National team / top 10 players in the Netherlands. Besides that it is my objective to help more clubs with a good Padel coach, structure and support from Padel-Only Academy . Everybody deserves a good coach who know how to play and organise Padel!
