So that you do not miss everything that Syracuse can offer you, located to the southeast of the Island of Sicily, we have selected for you the places and plans not to be missed in the city:
Roman Amphitheater As a good Italian city, Siracusa has architectural remains of the ancient Roman civilization. Its Roman amphitheater belongs to the Imperial Age and is considered one of the most significant of its kind. It is surrounded by green nature, which makes the white stone of the architectural set stand out even more.
The Ear of Dionysius is an artificial cave formed by limestone that is located in the area of “Latomia del Paraíso”, forming a grotto 65 meters long and 23 meters high.
His curious name was coined by the painter Caravaggio, who, in view of the similarity of form with that of an ear and favored by the acoustics offered by it, established this name in reference to the tyrant of Syracuse Dionysius I. Legend has it that this tyrant Made the prisoners work in the cave and thanks to acoustics he learned everything they planned.
Plaza of the Duomo of Syracuse in this central square are the most representative buildings of the city, the Duomo, the Senatoriale Palace (City Hall), the Church of Santa Lucía alla Badia, the Beneventano Palace of Bosco, Archaeological museum and the Archbishop’s Palace with its Algontian library.
Fountain of Aretusa this fountain by the sea is one of the most outstanding prints of the city for the legend it inspires. Greek mythology explains that the nymph Aretusa, fleeing from Alphaeus, son of the Ocean God, asked to become a source to escape from him. However, what the nymph could not imagine, is that Alpheus, madly in love, became a river, to be able to end at the source and be near Aretusa. Check here
