International Padel Experience Bilbao Open

La primera parada del IPE by Madison 2018 fue el Bilbao Open, torneo que tuvo una gran acogida y que no defraudó en absoluto. Hemos hablado con Sofía Azcona y Leire Basagoiti, campeonas de la categoría femenina A, que nos han transmitido las sensaciones que les dejó  el torneo y lo que significó para ellas poder ganarlo.

¿Qué os pareció el torneo disputado en Bilbao?

Nos ha parecido una experiencia buenísima y que sin duda repetiríamos. 

¿Partíais con el objetivo de ganar?

Para nada, todo lo contrario, nos apuntamos por apuntar y ha sido una grata sorpresa ganar. La semifinal, por ejemplo, fue muy dura y podía haber caído de cualquier lado.

Contadme un poco vuestra trayectoria en el mundo del pádel, tiempo que lleváis practicándolo, veces por semana, vuestros inicios…

Yo empecé desde muy pequeñita, cuando todavía nadie jugaba, sobre el año 96. Gracias a Pilimar, que en aquella época era de la federación vizcaína, fui a todos los torneos nacionales, incluyendo los campeonatos de España. De hecho, gracias a su insistencia pude disputar un campeonato del mundo con tan solo 12 años. Fue a partir de los 14 años cuando, a raíz de que me llamaran para la selección española de hockey hierba tuve que dejar de lado el pádel. A día de hoy, durante la semana no me da tiempo a practicarlo debido a mi trabajo pero intento disputar todos los torneos posibles.

¿Qué opinas del International Padel Experience by Madison?

Me ha parecido un descubrimiento único.

¿Qué significa para vosotras acudir al Máster Final del IPE?

Una oportunidad que no sabemos si podremos volver a repetir. Iremos a por todas y aprovecharemos la experiencia al máximo. 

¿Os gusta la idea de viajar a otra ciudad y mezclar turismo y pádel?

Me parece una idea buenísima, hay que saber hacer las dos cosas y hay tiempo para todo.

The first stop of the IPE by Madison 2018 was in Bilbao Open, tournament that had a great reception and didn’t dissapoint at all. We talked with Sofía Azcona and Leire Basagati, champions of the female A category, they have transmitted the feelings that the tournament left them and what it mean to them to be able to win it.

What do you think about the Bilbao Open?

We thought that it was a great experience and without doubts we would certainly repeat.

Did you start with the goal of winning?

Not at all, just the opposite, we aim to point and it was a great surprise to bea able to win. The semi final, for example, was so difficult and could have won any couple.

Tell me a little about your career in padel world, how long have you been practicing it? Times for week, the begginings…

I began since very little, when nobody played, about the year 96. Thanks to Pilimar, that in that time was of the biscay federation, I went to all the national tournaments, including the championships of Spain. In fact, thanks to her insistence I could dispute a world championship with 12 years only. It was from the 14 years when, as a result of being called fot the spanish team of hockey grass I had to put asside the padle. Today, during the week I don’t have tieme to play because my job but I try to dispute all de possible tournaments.

What is your opinnion about the IPE by Madison?

We thought that it is a unique discovery

What does it mean for you to go to the Final Master of the IPE?

An opportunity that we don’t know if we can repeat again. We will go for everything and make the most of the experience.

Do you like the idea of travelling to another city and mixing tourism and paddle? 

I think it’s a great idea. You have to know how to do both and there is time for everything.
